Introducing My New Egg Freezing Calculator
I am excited to announce the launch of my latest fertility tool: the Egg Freezing Calculator! Egg freezing is one of the most important steps a woman can take towards preserving their fertility. However, one common question women have is “how many eggs should I freeze?” or “how many babies can I expect from the eggs I have frozen?” My egg freezing calculator is designed to help give you answers to both of these questions.
The two most important factors that dictate your chance of success, if you ever come back to use your eggs to try to conceive, are how old you are when you froze them and how many mature eggs were frozen. The younger you are, the less eggs you need to be successful. The older you are when you freeze your eggs, the more eggs you need to overcome the age related decrease in egg quality.
How Does the Egg Freezing Calculator Work?
My egg freezing calculator works by taking as input your age and the number of eggs frozen, and then estimates the probabilities of success for those eggs progressing through thawing, fertilization, blastulation and genetic testing phases of development. Finally, for the eggs that survive to become a euploid (genetically normal) embryo, my calculator then estimates the chance of those embryos resulting in a live birth.
The attrition rate through each of those phases that my calculator uses is described by this table below:
Phase | Attrition Rate (%) |
Thawing | ~85-90% |
Fertilization | ~70-80% |
Blastulation | ~60% |
PGT Genetic Testing | The % of embryos which are genetically normal on the age of female. |
Live Birth per Embryo | ~60-65% |
It’s important to note that this tool is for educational purposes only and is based on predictive modelling and is no way tailored to your body and circumstances. Please do not, under any circumstance, use my tool as a substitute for a conversation you and your OBGYN should have about your fertility.
